Little Benaiah Dies On His Way To Dubai For His Heart Surgery

Little Benaiah died this morning in Lagos, while on his way to Dubai for a heart surgery. He was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

His story caught national interest after a video of his distraught dad soliciting for help for him in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, went viral.

Recall that Nigerians raised N70m towards his surgery, after his father was spotted in the streets begging for help. The late boy’s father was however accused of absconding with the money, a claim that was debunked after he Daddy Freeze had a video call with him.


According to the boy’s father then, they went off the radar for security reasons, and has also been busy with his wife who just gave birth on January 31st. He further revealed that they were set to travel out of Nigeria for his son’s treatment as soon as possible, and also showed the passports he procured for himself and his son.

Speaking to Punch afterwards, he said;

The doctor advised that the child be admitted and that doctors were coming from Italy to Nigeria and that they could treat the boy free of charge. But when we went to Enugu State to see the Italian doctors, they told us that they could not treat such a case and advised that we take the child abroad. A children’s heart specialist at the hospital in Enugu gave us an e-mail address of a doctor abroad for the treatment. She said we need to take the child abroad and gave us an estimate of N15m. The N15m includes logistics and travel fares. A doctor advised that the condition of the baby requires oxygen to carry the child to wherever we are going when we are travelling to.

About 48 hours after the video hit the internet, Nigerians rallied around to donate over N70m towards his surgery.
