Nigeria’s Falconets open their quest for their first ever FIFA Under-20 women World Cup title as they face Japan this evening in Papua New Guinea.
The team led by Peter Dedevbo had their first training at Bava Park Stadium venue of the game on Friday night with a promise of making a good start.
Falconets reached the final twice in 2010 and 2014. And this year, they are looking forward to lifting the trophy on December 3. A win against Japan will confirm their intentions. However, Japan, are another team who never lack ambition. The upshot should be a fine spectacle for the fans featuring no shortage of speed, physical prowess, thrills and skills.
The Falconets
The Japanese rank will include Yui Hasegawa, one of the inspirations behind her side’s triumph at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in 2014, where she was awarded the adidas Silver Ball. The Nigerians also have their fair share of star names, including notably Rasheedat Ajibade, who goes into the tournament fresh from captaining the U-17 side, the Flamingoes at the Jordan 2016 FIFA World Cup, where she was the Live Your Goals Player of the Match in the scoreless draw with England..
