The Mo Ibrahim Foundation yesterday named a Kenyan, Egyptian, and Zambian as winners of the photography competition, conceived to capture imaginations of a future Africa from the perspective of Africans.

Kenyan photographer, Jeri Muchura was announced as the winner of the competition in the professional category, Samar Baiomy from Egypt won in the amateur category while Phindule Tshizumba from South Africa won the contest in the student category.
All three winners according to a statement issued by the Foundation will each receive a prize of $10,000, though Tshizumba would be expected to split his prize money with his school.
The competition themed MyAfrica was launched earlier in the year as part of the activities commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and was open to photographers of all abilities and ages.
The entries were to capture what Africans envision would influence the shape the continent in the different areas the foundation is engaged.
Mo Ibrahim, Founder, and Chair of the Foundation responding to the announcement said: “The Foundation received thousands of photographs, and I would like to thank all those who submitted entries. The best photographs show a vibrant and dynamic future for Africa and tell a story of opportunity and hope. MyAfrica celebrates Africans – through their own images and words – speaking for themselves rather than being spoken for.”
All the finalists’ photographs will be displayed at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s 10th-anniversary celebration, which will take place in London in October and at the Annual Governance Weekend in Marrakech in November.
